Here we present the top 10 Bollywood male actors of 2011 (in random order). Go through this bumpy ride and don’t forget to mention your own favorite choice:
1. Salman Khan
Salman had a lot of muscle power to showcase this year. After a stupendous mega hit with ‘Dabangg’ in 2011, he reiterated the fact that he was ‘Ready’ to play ‘Bodyguard’ to the industry. While a host of films licked dust at box office, Salman alone spun money at will raking in over Rs 100 crore with each of his outings ‘Ready’ and ‘Bodyguard’. He also registered the fact that he is the new king of Box office (sorry, Shahrukh) and he did that with 2 films that were really mediocre in terms of content or direction.
2. Shahrukh Khan
Bollywood’s ‘King of Romance’ took a break from love stories this time around and attacked the cinema halls in action-oriented flicks. He slipped into the blue costumes of a superhero for his much-publicized, much-awaited, much-hyped ‘Ra.One’ and took Bollywood to new heights of technology. Though SRK tried hard to hold on to the slipping crown, the film was trashed by many as a no-content frivolity. Playing the dual characters of a South Indian technician and then a savior superhero, Shahrukh essayed diversity yet didn’t live up to expectations & hype. The film shall be remembered more for its superior technology and for the thumping number ‘Chammak Challo’ than for the story or the performances.
However, just when some harsh critics were about to write him off, the King Khan landed on Christmas with a punching blow in the garbs of ‘Don 2’. Fast & flick, this heart-racing action film was praised from all quarters for both its jaw-dropping action sequence and SRK’s breathtaking performance.

Ranbir turned ‘Rockstar’ for his sole release of the year and impressed and wowed. The Imtiaz Ali film did land in controversy and got average ratings from the critics but amidst all the gravels, Ranbir shone like a diamond. His wide array of emotions depicted in ‘Rockstar’ brought him huge adulations and cemented his position as the number 1 star from the new generation. Though the film didn’t do too well at the box office, his bombastic performance is bound to fetch him some trophies from the award circuits this year. Late Shammi Kapoor, who came before the camera for the last time in this film, would have been really proud of his grandson’s achievement
4. Farhan Akhtar
Farhan, the multi-tasker, can direct, produce, sing, dance and act and still excel in all these departments. And with his majestic show in ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, he once again proved his colossal strength & talent before some mightier names. There was Hrithik, there was Abhay, there wasKatrina, but Farhan was arrested & put in jail. Why? Coz, he stole the show!
5. Aamir Khan
The world is still waiting for a full-fledged Aamir Khan starrer after the epic ‘3 Idiots’ and the fans’ ‘Talaash’ will come to an end on August this year. However, as far as 2011 is concerned, Aamir did wield his magical wand to conjure up some big bucks with films like ‘Delhi Belly’ that he produced. A comic caper, it had the whole nation laughing out loud and also revived nephew Imran Khan’s sinking career. Aamir, though, appeared for the groovy song ‘I hate you like I love you’ and had the mesmerized audience eating out of his hand. However, the acting prowess of the ‘Lagaan’ actor was harnessed in wife Kiran Rao’s ‘Dhobi Ghat’ in which he essayed a painter with artistic depth & subtlety.
6. Amitabh Bachchan
The angry, young man of yesteryears may be in his 70th year but those, who were casting doubts on his youthful exuberance, got a slice of his flamboyance in ‘Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap’. As the title aptly remarks, Big B is still young and all-attractive. Then came ‘Aarakshan’ which saw him in a completely different avatar of a stern, principled college headmaster. Both the films, unfortunately, lacked quality in content and bombed at the box office. But Amitabh’s performance was hailed and applauded, as always! He came, he acted, he conquered!
And add to that, his bewitching anchoring of the 5th edition of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ and we know how much work load can this 69-year old man shoulder! Quite truly so, ‘Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap’, right?

7. Hrithik Roshan
Hrithik went for a multi-starrer in Zoya Akhtar’s critically acclaimed film ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ and came out a winner. This road movie about friendship, love & relationships was reminiscent of ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and added a new feather to Hrithik’s heavily-ornamented cap. His portrayal of ‘Arjun’ was applauded by the swooning crowd. The liplock with Katrina was the perfect icing on the cake!
8. R Madhavan
After a superlative success in ‘3 Idiots’, a confident and more popular Madhavan returned to the screen with a solo in ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ opposite Kangana Ranaut. His endearing character of an honest, humble, shy & submissive lover made a hole in our hearts and brought him laurels & claps. Though, there were many loose plugholes in the script, Madhavan kept the film sewed together and carried it entirely on his responsible shoulders at a time when theatres were running empty because of IPL.
9. Abhay Deol
Abhay is one of the most underrated actors in Bollywood and one who is still to get his due. Known for doing off-beat films so far, he sprang to limelight with the box office shattering ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ where he sketched out a heart-winning performance of a confused lover.
10. Ajay Devgan
Ajay Devgan, who stays aloof of the spotlight, goes about doing his job sincerely year after year and film after film. And he roared yet again in 2011 with his powerful cop act in ‘Singham’. The film fetched big money at the cash box and established Ajay as one of the most bankable and quality actors of present Bollywood.
