Big budget Kannada films to be released in 2012

New Delhi: The general notion is that Sandalwood has a limited market and not viable for producers to invest money on par with other language films. If the big-budget films that are set to hit the silver screen in 2012 are any indication, it seems that Kannada film producers have decided not to compromise with quality of the films anymore.
Challenging Star Darshan's period flick 'Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna' is set to release in a couple of months with its shooting expected to complete within a few days. As of now, Darshan, Nikita Thukral and other unit members of 'Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna' are busy shooting near Belgaum. Jayapradha has played the role of Kitturu Rani Chennamma.
According to film industry sources, the budget of this film has already crossed Rs 22-crore mark.

The other big budget film is Upendra-starrer 'God Father'. Producer K Manju has gone all out to ensure that this Rs 10-crore film is a huge hit at the box office. According to Manju, 'God Father' is the first Kannada film to have music by AR Rehaman. Another first is that Upendra is playing three characters in one film. Former president and yesteryear heroine Jayamala is introducing her daughter Soundarya as a heroine with the film 'God Father'.
Mammootty's bi-lingual film 'Shikari' is also slated for release either this month or next month.
Producer Manju has high hopes on the success of this film.
Darshan's other film 'Chingaari' is also expected to be released shortly. Its distribution rights have already been sold for a huge amount. The producer B Mahadev is a happy person while choreographer-turned director Harsha expects 'Chingaari' to make him the most sought-after director in Sandalwood after his failure to impress earlier. Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar's much-hyped film 'Anna Bond' is expected to go to the sets on January 6.
To be directed by Soori, who handled megaphone for Puneeth's films 'Jackie' and 'Hudugaru', the satellite rights of 'Anna Bond' has already sold for a decent sum. It is said that the distributors are vying among themselves for Anna Bond's distribution rights. Producer Munirathna is leaving no stone unturned to make Upendra and Ramya-starrer film 'Katari Veera Surasundarangi' a success.
It is rumoured that the producer decided to spend around Rs 10 crore on this film that is expected to be a multi-lingual. Hat-trick hero Shivarajkumar's big-budget film 'Lakshmi' is also expected to hit the silver screen within a month. However, no one has any clue about the release of Crazy Star Ravichandran's much-delayed big-budget film 'Manjina Hani'
